'THE CECILIAN SINGERS have always had a reputation
for variety in their programmes.
Here they have excelled themselves again.'
Our programme of English and French music stretches far and wide, both historically and stylistically.
From France we have 16th century secular items featuring over-the-fence gossips, a tourist-board renaissance advert for Paris, and a quick-step through a bird-watcher's handbook. Our concert also contains the only three part-songs for unaccompanied voices that Debussy ever wrote. In our last group of pieces, we sing one of the best-loved French Chansons of the 20th century, but wearing a 17th century suit of clothes.
English language items include a quick trip round the British Isles, Craig McCleish's vivid description of three of the world's mightiest rivers, a Beatles song, and a ride on that most iconic of vehicles - the London Transport bus.
Hold very tight, please, for a marvellous musical mélange!
