Guy Turner studied Music at Cambridge, where he sang in Clare Choir under John Rutter, and founded the St Michael's Singers.

He was a music teacher for thirty-one years, during which time he was also active as a conductor. Conductorships included the Tudor Singers, Egham and District Choral Society, Surrey Heath Youth Orchestra and Somerset County Youth Choir. He was director of music at St John the Baptist, Yeovil, for seven years.

In 2008 he moved to Nottinghamshire to take up a post singing in the Cathedral Choir at Southwell Minster, where he remains. He combines this with a freelance career as a singer, conductor, pianist, teacher and composer. He is the archivist of the Eric Thiman Collection and a question verifier for TV quizzes. He also writes questions for Only Connect and Mastermind. He is the conductor of Bingham and District Choral Society. His compositions range from a Requiem and other extended choral works, to close harmony numbers, such as the famous Tequila Samba and Over the Rainbow, and stage works, such as his adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters.  His Close Harmony pieces have been sung and recorded by Cantabile, Voces8 and the King's Singers.
