SINGING’S THE THING!
THE CECILIAN SINGERS
have a motto, it could be this:
"If it can be sung, we’ll sing it!"
For their first visit to All Saints Church, Oakham, on 17 November 2018 at 7.30pm, variety is certainly the name of the game. Their programme features music spanning four centuries and covers a breath-taking variety of styles. The music of Renaissance master William Byrd and All Saints’ fine acoustic were made for each other. They celebrate the centenary of Sir Hubert Parry with heartfelt music both sacred and secular. In another group of pieces which offer a potted history of choral music, there are contributions from Monteverdi and Mendelssohn. All this is in dazzling contrast to contemporary items from Africa, and a final group which contains songs by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Flanders & Swann.
